Summer Fashion School – 3/6 & 4/6
Sorry, It’s been a busy couple of weeks and I’m a bit behind, let me update you on what Summer and I have been up to on our weekly Fashion School Sessions…
This week we focussed on creating the large applique bird Summer wanted to put on the front of her dress.
I went and brought some bondaweb (like wonderweb strips but is on a roll with paper backing) and we used this to create fabric collage (how I explained applique to Summer)
Firstly we figured out a rough size then Summer sketched out the bird. Sections were added which could be made from different materials. We then cut these all out and ironing the bondaweb to the reverse of the fabric we then set about putting together our puzzle.
Summer really enjoyed the experience and was super happy with the final result… We’re going to add eye and feet details with a fabric pen next week)
Here are some snaps I took of the process…
So this week it was time to make the dress. I choose a really simple dress pattern that I had previously used for my real Fashion School.
We tweaked the pattern a little to make sure it was a better fit then set out cutting out our pattern pieces.
This was also Summer’s first real time on the sewing machine. I was so proud of her! She did amazing!
Once we had a 2 pieces Summer pinned them together and after a quick lesson started putting her dress together. A quick try on and some minor alterations and we were done!
You could tell Summer was really proud of her dress and rightly so!
After that we attached the bird to the front and the end is in site.
We’re taking a break next week as Summer is off on a little break with her family, but will be back the week after to finish embellishing the dress and hopefully doing a photoshoot!
Here are some photos that show the progress of the session (which was an hour and half this week)
