Duffle Coat Project

Earlier this year I did a ‘Strong Voices’ project with Priory School and The National Museum of the Royal Navy.
Strong Voices is a 2-year funded project by Artswork working with disadvantaged young people aged 13-19, local cultural partners and artists. You can read more on the idea and all the individual project successes here.
Our project focussed on the duffle coat and the its origins in the the Royal Navy. The 14 young people I worked with all visited the museum with me for inspiration then got the chance to customise a plain duffle coat with their own designs. The project was supported by Gloverall who are the original Duffle Coat supplier, A couple of the group even got the chance to model the brand new, yet to be released ‘Dazzle Coats’ from their A/W 14 collection.
The project ended in March this year with a celebration event at Portsmouth Guildhall and after that we had the opportunity to do a photoshoot aboard The Victory and the M33.
The project was such a fun experience and I am honoured to have been asked back again to deliver another project this year with The Woodlands Edcucation Centre and The Royal Marines Museum (more on that later).
