Portsmouth Woman of the Year Award 2014

So, last year Portsmouth launched an annual ‘Woman of the Year’ Awards. The idea is to “shine a light on those who put others before themselves and have blazed a trail of achievement that inspires other women”. The ceremony is a way of celebrating the achievements of the women who make the biggest impact on our communities, personal lives and business. And I got nominated… which was lovely, but The News have just released the shortlist and I, along with my lovely friend Naomi Thompson have made the three finalists for the ‘Woman in Fashion’ Category. How very exciting! The Ceremony takes place on November 22 at a local hotel and I’m really excited! A chance to get all dressed up and celebrate some inspirational local ladies! I will keep you all updated on how it goes… here’s a couple of pictures of the...

Style me Vintage – Accessories

Style me Vintage – Accessories

So, my beautiful and clever friend Naomi Thompson (along with her friend Liz Tregenza) have just released their new book – Style Me Vintage – Accessories. The book is essentially a guide to collectable hats, gloves, bags, shoes, costume jewellery and more… “This essential addition to the hugely popular Style Me Vintage series will help you finish off your vintage look to perfection. It’s the accessories and smaller details that help create the final polished look, whether it’s a homage to the 1920s or the 1980s or everything in between, and it’s oh so easy to get those details wrong and ruin the effect. Here to help you through the minefield are vintage experts Naomi Thompson and Liz Tregenza, offering invaluable advice on how to correctly identify, source and wear vintage jewellery, sunglasses, hats, gloves, scarves, bags and shoes. With informative and beautiful photography and no-nonsense tips, this is every vintage fan’s ideal go-to guide.” Sound’s good right!? Naomi released her first book, ‘Style Me Vintage – Clothes’ a little while back and it sits proudly on my book shelf, so if that’s anything to go by, this is going to be worth getting your vintage be-gloved mitts on! Now, this book is not only getting a shout out because it’s a friend and because it deserves it, it’s also getting a shout out because I had a tiny part involved… Naomi asked me a while ago to create some artwork for the book… you may remember these sneak peeks….             Well now that’s it’s officially released and all that jazz I feel I can share with you some pics… The book was reviewed a little while ago by the rightfully named Queens of Vintage and they reviewed the book, and took this amazing shot of the artwork I created…   What do you think? I think it looks fab, it’s also nice to see a few of my brooches making their debut! So…. Now you’ve seen a sneak peek, I insist you all go any buy a copy! You can buy the book from Amazon using this link. Enjoy!… and well done my friend, you are an inspiration! x Oh… also, check out this Portsmouth News article about Naomi and her treasure hunting...

Treasures & Trims…

I am so excited to share my recent finds with you… I cant wait to use them… Recently I was in Leeds for my little bro’s graduation and after a celebratory lunch we strolled back through the city, past the beautiful corn exchange and through the famous Kirkgate Market… Out the other side we stumbled upon a collection of outside stalls and with the sun beating down on us we strolled through the aisles. I was in awe of all the sari stalls and was slowing the group down when my love spotted an indian lace stall that he thought I should check out…. wow. The stall has boxes upon boxes of trims, trims and embroidered lovliness… I unfortunately had zero money on me, but after a kind temporary loan from the awesome Mumma Lo I indulged…. What was most surprising was the price, everything was so cheap!! Compared to what you’d pay for the equilivant down here, the things were more then half what I would have expected to pay! I was in heaven! There were lots that were too much for me.. anything pink and turquoise was a definite no no, but there was so much! I brought loads of sequinned trims and also some beautiful laces but what was really exciting were these amazing detailed back pieces? I’m not sure what they are, but that’s what I’m going to use them for, I want to make a couple of simple kimonos to wear with the lingerie collection which I’ve finally booked in! Yay! Will share a little post tomorrow about my...

Summer Fashion School 5/6

Finally getting round to doing the last 2 instalments of Summer Fashion School. In week 5 of 6 we were finishing up things ready for the final session and photoshoot on the last week. Summer had cut out lots of circles of the dress fabric as was going to adorn the neckline with these so the resembled flowers. We also used this session to put together Summer’s final project sheet. On this sheet we included the original mood-boards, the design ideas, summers bird sketch, the illustrated collection, pattern pieces, sewing trials and fabric swatch board. The we left a little space for the final photoshoot photos that we’ll take next week! I’ll let you take a look...
