Pompey Punks… A new project with Portsmouth Cultural Trust

I’m thrilled to be involved in this exciting project in partnership with The Portsmouth Cultural Trust. This Heritage Lottery funded project, officially called Provincial Punk in Pompey Project will allow local young people to explore 40 years of provincial Punk in Pompey. As this year marks the 40th anniversary of punk – a genre that profoundly changed the British cultural scene, particularly in cities like Portsmouth, the project hope to celebrate punk’s major influences on British culture and support a new generation in discovering the history of punk in Portsmouth. The Portsmouth Cultural Trust has been awarded a £30,900 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The project is a multi-stranded project including fashion, film, music and more. You can find out more about the project on the Portsmouth Guildhall website by clicking here, or visit the project blog here. Punk’s ‘do-it-yourself’ ethos had particular resonance in cities and towns not normally associated with the music business and in communities badly affected by the economic downturn of the time. It had a very strong following in Portsmouth, hit especially hard by redundancies in the dockyards. I will be leading a series of fashion workshops where we will be designing and creating merchandise for a celebratory end of project gig at the guildhall in November. The sessions, which run throughout August  (see dates and times on flyer below) are free to attend and open to any young people who have an interest in Punk and fashion and would like to be a part of a fantastic project. If you’d like to know more, give me an email on ami@miamai.co.uk or pop along to one of the...

Young Designers

Young Designers | A 10-week course at Making Space Over the last few years teaching… and teaching young people in particular has become a huge focus of my work. It’s something I get so much out of and enjoy immensely. For four years I ran a weekly Fashion School at The Spring in Havant and over those four years I’ve worked with loads of inspirational young ladies who are so incredibly talented. Unfortunately The Spring had to cancel the course last month so rather then mourn the end of one era I have decided to make the most of a bad situation and turn it on its head and make it into a very good thing. I just confirmed with Making Space that I will be running a new course called Young Designers. I’m so excited… I will be running this course throughout the year in 3 x 10 week blocks and will be working with a group of young designers as we look at a whole range of creative industries. From Fashion to illustration, photography, hair and makeup, design, styling and textiles. We will be covering the whole shaboodle. I will be responsive to what the young designers want to do, we will set project briefs together and they will work together and independently on creative outcomes. I hope to imbed the Arts Award in the sessions and also work towards a showcase at Making Space’s annual Open Studios and do an end of term show at the end of a the academic year. The course has just gone live on Making Space’s website  and the details are as follows: Autumn Term 2016: Tuesdays 27 September, 4, 11, 18 October, 1, 8, 15, 29 November, 6, 13 December. 5.30pm-7pm. Course Costs and Booking Details The 10-wk Young Designers course costs £90. (Materials included) Course can be paid for in full or in 2 x 5-week blocks (£45) via Making Space’s website/Paypal. Click here to be taken Making Space to book a place. Alternatively they accept cheques, cash or card payments over the phone. The course requires a minimum of 8 participants to run so fingers crossed we get a full house of eager creative beavers to launch this fantastic new...

Textiles

Every now and again I get asked to dig out my sewing & material box and do a commission of the textile kind. Whilst this is not my main focus, the occasional unique request can be really fun! I also recently went on a weaving course so am starting to add weavings to my repertoire. Here are a selection of textile creations. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a textile commission....

Wedding Fingerprint Guestbooks

Wedding Fingerprint Guestbooks

These have become really popular recently… In addition to the standard guest book people seem to thinking of something more creative like a thumbprint guest book picture? These are a unique addition to your special day or make an inspiring gift with a difference. The Bride & Groom are left with a piece of art to remember their most special of days. Recent popular designs have included thumbprints making up a bunch of balloons, a heart around the couple or even the leafs upon a tree. The couple will receive a large original illustration of the bride and groom either in wedding attire or clothes of your choice. You can also add your children and pets if you like! The date of the big day and the names of the bride and groom will also be added. I can also provide you with a digital downloadable file with instructions if you’d like. Ink pads can be purchased via the internet or through craft stores such as Hobbycraft. If you would like me to get these too the price will increase depending on what is required/brought. Wedding Thumbprint Illustrations cost £65 not including delivery. If you’d like to purchase one or have any questions please send me an email enquiry. Below is a few examples of previous...

Tattoo Design

Since I started illustrating and because I believe I have a distinct style of drawing, I frequently get asked to design tattoos for people. This is something I am hugely passionate about as I have an ambition of one day learning to tattoo myself. Here are a selection of my tattoo designs. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss a tattoo design. Please bear in mind my style of drawing, this is what I am confident illustrating. Whilst I could attempt to do something of a different genre/style, this will take longer and you may be better contacting another artist who’s skills lie in that field. I charge £20 per hour for tattoo designs. £20 deposit paid when order is placed, and the rest on completion. I can recommend tattoo artists who have experience in my artwork/who I am confident can do the artwork justice. Bespoke Design Bespoke Design Bespoke Design Bespoke Design Bespoke Design Bespoke...

Pin Up Portraits

Pin Up Portraits

This all began in 2009 when I was asked to design a pin up of a mans wife for a potential tattoo… The tattoo actually never happened but the illustration style and concept caught on and became really popular. Over the course of 5 or so years I have been asked to create these for anniversary gifts, birthday treats, & Christmas presents, I have also done them for brides, as thank you’s for being a bridesmaids, and valentines cards/gifts and even as a wedding gift. I charge £50 for a single portrait. £75-£100 for a double portrait (depending on detail/time spent) Finished illustrations are hand-drawn first, then digitally coloured, before being printed on A4 card. I can also send a digital version. Themes, words, outfits and colour-ways can all be requested. To do the illustration I require some high quality digital photos of the model and examples of pose/style/detailed requests etc are also useful. Please contact me for more info. Here is a selection of Pin Up...
