Style me Vintage – Accessories

So, my beautiful and clever friend Naomi Thompson (along with her friend Liz Tregenza) have just released their new book – Style Me Vintage – Accessories. The book is essentially a guide to collectable hats, gloves, bags, shoes, costume jewellery and more… “This essential addition to the hugely popular Style Me Vintage series will help you finish off your vintage look to perfection. It’s the accessories and smaller details that help create the final polished look, whether it’s a homage to the 1920s or the 1980s or everything in between, and it’s oh so easy to get those details wrong and ruin the effect. Here to help you through the minefield are vintage experts Naomi Thompson and Liz Tregenza, offering invaluable advice on how to correctly identify, source and wear vintage jewellery, sunglasses, hats, gloves, scarves, bags and shoes. With informative and beautiful photography and no-nonsense tips, this is every vintage fan’s ideal go-to guide.” Sound’s good right!? Naomi released her first book, ‘Style Me Vintage – Clothes’ a little while back and it sits proudly on my book shelf, so if that’s anything to go by, this is going to be worth getting your vintage be-gloved mitts on! Now, this book is not only getting a shout out because it’s a friend and because it deserves it, it’s also getting a shout out because I had a tiny part involved… Naomi asked me a while ago to create some artwork for the book… you may remember these sneak peeks….             Well now that’s it’s officially released and all that jazz I feel I can share with you some pics… The book was reviewed a little while ago by the rightfully named Queens of Vintage and they reviewed the book, and took this amazing shot of the artwork I created…   What do you think? I think it looks fab, it’s also nice to see a few of my brooches making their debut! So…. Now you’ve seen a sneak peek, I insist you all go any buy a copy! You can buy the book from Amazon using this link. Enjoy!… and well done my friend, you are an inspiration! x Oh… also, check out this Portsmouth News article about Naomi and her treasure hunting...

BFW

A few years ago I got approached by Brighton Fashion week asking me to showcase my work on the catwalk. This was such a huge honour for me but unfortunately I couldn’t get together the fee in time and had to decline. It’s one thing regarding my business I’ve always regretted. Since then I have shown my work at Winchester Fashion Week, Southsea Fashion week and got asked to take part in SCFW but Brighton’s still always been in the back of my mind. Earlier this month I got asked to take part in a curated Fashion Market as part of the fashion weeks schedule and I jumped at the chance to get back on their radar… I wouldn’t be missing this second opportunity to build bridges with an event I so much want to be a part of. So on Saturday 11 October you will find me selling my wares as one of the 40 handpicked artists and makers. I will be selling artwork, jewellery and lingerie as well as advertising my lingerie service and taking orders. I’ve posted the info as an event so if you’re able to come down and say hi, it would be lovely to see some familiar faces ( I have even reinvented a Mia Mai iconic print for the occasion! 🙂...

Fashion School New Term

Well it’s September and we’re getting into the swing of things! Last week was my first week back after the summer of teaching my weekly Fashion School at The Spring. You can find our dates/times/cost etc here. If you know of a fashionable 11-16year old who you think may be interested get in touch or contact The Spring directly. They can come for a free taster session first to see if they like it so no pay out until they are sure they like! 🙂 Featured images if from one of my talented previous students...

I’m excited to announce that I’m about to embark on a little collaborative project with the lovely people over at Etch. If you haven’t heard of this Portsmouth based company yet I encourage you to visit their website and see what they offer…. you’ll be impressed I ensure you! Ever since I saw the beautiful wooden Strong Island Phone cases I have been lusting after them and imagining Mia Mai girls adorning the backs of phones… I finally got round to chatting the staff and am excited to say that you’ll soon be able to purchase a Mia Mai illustrated wooden phone case via me/etch for just £42.50 I’m debating on creating some new artwork or reworking some of my old favourite pieces! I’d appreciate any feedback or suggestions you may have! 🙂 I’ll do another post when I have some prototypes to show you! Exciting stuff!! 🙂...
